For almost 50 years, DM Civil has delivered infrastructure projects for mining clients, municipal authorities, and private developers across Western Australia—from the Perth metropolitan area to remote locations such as Esperance, Kununurra, and even the Tanami Desert in the Northern Territory.
Regional civil construction requires careful planning and logistics to ensure equipment, materials, and critical supplies are available well in advance. In remote environments, any delay in procurement or mobilisation can have serious impacts on project schedules, potentially leading to cost overruns, contractual penalties, and knock-on effects for other works. Robust contingency planning is essential to manage potential challenges, including weather events, safety or environmental incidents, and client-driven delays.
Recently, DM Civil was engaged by the Water Corporation to deliver a significant water and wastewater infrastructure project in Bayonet Head, Albany. The scope involved constructing approximately four kilometres of DN355 PE100 and DN450 PE100 pressure main via horizontal directional drilling (HDD) along Ulster Road, discharging into 300 metres of DN375 uPVC gravity sewer installed in a four-metre-deep open excavation along North Road.
Our site PE welding team played a critical role in the project’s success, commencing with qualifying welds witnessed by Water Corporation inspectors to ensure compliance with stringent standards—particularly important for HDD installations. As a Tier 1 contractor and registered Critical Services Panel member, DM Civil deployed our in-house welding technicians and supervisors, along with our Tecnodue 500 and 630 Bushranger tracked welding machines, to complete the works to the highest quality.
The project presented a range of challenges, including distance from our Perth base, extended wet weather delays, and the need for 10-days-on/4-days-off rosters to minimise disruption to residents. Additional complexities included competing traffic management installations on nearby projects and unmapped ground conditions. Leveraging the depth of experience within our project team and organisation, DM Civil successfully delivered the works ahead of schedule and within budget.
