Project overview

This is the penultimate stage of Landcorp’s Champion Lakes Estate, located between Lake Road and Champion Lake. The project ran over 24 weeks producing a high class finish to the satisfaction of the consultant and the client.

The single dwelling lots and the group housing site along St Catharine’s Promenade yield an uninterrupted view over Champion Lake.

Before the subdivisional works could begin approximately 10,000m3 of debris had to be removed from site as well as three large stockpiles of excess material from previous stages totalling 7,500m3.

There was 24,500m3 of earthworks to be carried out including cut to fill and imported fill. The project also involved the building of 800m of natural earth block retaining walls with steel infill fencing between the piers, 1.3km of sewer reticulation, 800m of various sized stormwater drainage, 5,000m2 of asphalted roadworks, decorative brick paved footpaths and infill panels, 650m of potable water reticulation, underground power and communication reticulation
for the future NBN installation.

Having vast experience in remediation works and competence in dealing with uncontrolled fills including hazardous materials, DM Civil were able to eliminate the risks and manage the high profile project in favour of the client.

Significant achievements and benefits

A detailed dewatering management plan was required for the installation of the 6.5m deep DN225 sewer line running through the middle of the site along Barrington Avenue. To achieve this a multi staged extensive well point dewatering and management system was installed.

Champion Lake is controlled by Eventscorp who had a number of Triathlon, Duathlon and cycling events pre-organised. As a result, the existing footpath running along the entire western boundary of the site, which formed part of the upgrade scope of works, had to be open to the public for scheduled events during the construction timeframe.

The client opted for the use of natural earth block retaining walls which enhanced the surrounding areas and Champion Lakes. With walls as high as 1.8m along St Catharine’s Promenade, open steel fencing was installed between the piers and into the stair recesses. This would allow for future lot owners to have uninterrupted views of the lake.

Being a diverse and multi-disciplined company, DM Civil was able manage and complete this project within the time frame set by the client, despite some scope changes.

With meditative planning, appropriate attention to detail and a hands on approach this project was completed to a high standard and within time constraints, much to the satisfaction of the client.
