Steven Street, known affectionately within the DM Civil family as “Streety,” began his journey with the company on 1 May 1996. Initially employed as a Front-End Loader Operator, Streety was working on the Stirling Alliance Trunk Main Project in the late 1990s when owner Tony Spanjers asked if he could fill in on the delivery truck for two weeks. Twenty-nine years later, Streety is now the longest-serving full-time truck driver in DM Civil’s history.
Over the years, Streety has driven more than 1.5 million kilometres, delivering general freight to and between DM Civil’s projects. While most of his work has been in the Perth metropolitan area, he has also travelled extensively across regional WA.
Streety’s logistics career began in a Mitsubishi flat-top truck, later replaced by a 4×2 Mitsubishi FM658 fitted with a Hiab. After covering around 250,000 kilometres, DM Civil’s growing operational needs saw the introduction of a 6×4 Mitsubishi Fuso delivery truck. This upgrade increased payload capacity by four tonnes, featured a Hiab capable of craning 800kg at 10 metres, and included a Ring Feeder for towing a 12-metre semi-trailer. Over nearly 750,000 kilometres, the Fuso became a workhorse of the fleet.
With evolving business requirements, DM Civil has now welcomed a new Isuzu FXY240-350 Tilt Slide to the fleet. This truck features airbag suspension, automatic transmission, a self-lubricating main chassis slide rail, sea container pusher and twist locks, and a keyhole floor for securing loads. Designed with mine site safety in mind, it also includes full handrailing, slide-out steps for three points of contact, and a pintle hook for towing the new plant trailer.
Logistics Manager Nathan Le Brun and Managing Director Jason Toohey were proud to hand over the keys of this highly capable vehicle to Streety, recognising his decades of service and expertise.
Streety’s skills extend beyond truck driving. He often assists in the workshop as a panel beater and spray painter, particularly during fleet rebuilds, and regularly drives the Kenworth K104 Aerodyne prime mover with Haulmore dolly and Drake low loader – a combination rated for a 50-tonne payload.
