Project overview
The project involved the installation of 1.4km of DN700 MSCL Water Main in varying ground conditions utilising different construction methodologies. This project ran along Marmion Avenue between Alkimos and Eglinton.
The MSCL pipeline was comprised of both RRJ and RRJ-WR pipes alongside several air and scour valves. A large section of the pipeline was installed through a high quality landscaped area which was the focal point for a new subdivision. As part of the contract we had to ensure that the quality of reinstatement in this area was of the highest of standards. This was closely monitored by an external 3rd party throughout. It was noted at the end of the project that the reinstatement was to a higher standard than the original product and all stakeholders were extremely happy with the outcome.
Working closely with the regional operations team we ensured this asset was functional and in use ahead of schedule.
At DM Civil we pride ourselves on delivering on our clients high expectations and this project was no exception. Constant and thorough communication throughout the project ensured client satisfaction was of the highest level.
Significant achievements and benefits
DM Civil had to redesign this pipeline due to several clashes with major existing services. This was done in a fast, efficient and professional manner ensuring all elements were thoroughly considered.
A significant section of this pipeline was in close vicinity to a large residential area. As such it was vital that the interface with the public was constantly considered and reviewed throughout the works. All bus routes and bus stops remained operational by DM Civil constructing several
temporary footpaths to redirect the public. In essence, this community gained a significant improvement to their water infrastructure with minimal disturbance and sacrifice throughout construction.
Utilising our Tesmec TRS 1475 Trencher we were able to dramatically increase our productivity through the large sections of hard rock. As a consequence we completed the project 2 weeks ahead of schedule with no compromise to our high Safety and Quality standards.
There were over 3,500 man hours worked on this project with no LTIs, MTIs or MIs. This verifies that our mature safety systems and procedures work to ensure our personnel operate in a safe environment. At DM Civil this is of paramount importance regardless of the project size or complexity.
DM Civil have over 35 years experience in pipeline construction for the Water Corporation which allows us to understand any potential issues from the beginning of a project and make the necessary suggestions to ensure the best solution is realised. This forward thinking approach had a vital role to play in the success of this project.
